The Stimming Pool is a feature film co-created by The Neurocultures Collective and Steven Eastwood, funded by Wellcome Trust, Film London, and Arts Council England (the collaboration also created the parallel multiscreen exhibition STIM CINEMA). This hybrid feature film breaks new ground by centring autistic voices, offering viewers an immersive experience into neurodiverse perspectives. The project sought to treat neurodivergence as the lens through which to challenge the neuro-normativity of conventional film form, instead proposing an autistic camera perspective through which to create a film that is as much about flowing through environments and recognising patterns as it is about representation. The Stimming Pool worked from a fully accessible production, including disability riders, features an almost entirely autistic cast, is co-owned across all co-creators.
